2025 Gold Award – Silk Replica & Preserved

Hempel Real Estate took on the daunting task of revitalizing the city’s defunct downtown mall.  They have reimagined the mall into downtown living, shopping, and a vibrant food hall.  Their latest undertaking was creating a new event space that stands out from the other offerings in the city. 

Hempel Real Estate understands the younger generation’s draw to biophilic spaces.  Early in the design phase they envisioned lush, green hanging ceilings and a large scale moss wall.  We were brought into the project to help advise them on feasibility, installation challenges, product selections, and most importantly budgeting.   

540 artificial Eucalyptus bushes were hung throughout the event space from custom designed floating ceilings.  A combination of green and sage Eucalyptus was used to create depth and interest in the green ceiling. 

4’, 3’ and 2’ diameter preserved reindeer moss circles were used on the back wall of the space to continue the green vibe and break up the expanse of white wall. 

A custom 46’ long x 7.5’ high moss wall was installed near the lounge area and creates the focal point for the event space.  The moss wall was fabricated in 12 individual panels and then screwed directly to the plywood backing that was installed by the general contractor.
