2025 Silver Award – Design
Vivarium, a new 450 capacity multi-purpose venue, engaged us to help them see their vision come to life. Vivarium was developed as an incubator for new artists to grow and develop their careers. Therefore, growth and greenery came center stage for the theme of the venue. A combination ofpreserved moss, live plants, and artificial plants were all utilized to meet the design needs of the client.

As soon as ticket holders enter the venue, four custom preserved moss panels in the vestibule greet them. The moss art sets the stage for what is to come and serve a dual purpose of camouflaging acoustic panels to deaden sound at the street.

With a 450-person capacity, floor space was at a premium. Custom plant shelves were designed by the architect to hang between the exposed trusses. A combination of split leaf philodendrons, pothos, and Algerian ivy were used to create an illusion of a green ceiling.
